Short answer: we'd like to make a living.
Running a website such as Capsi requires resources. We have to pay for hosting costs. We have to spend time on developing new features and moderating content. We spend time on contacting booking agencies and adding tour dates ourselves so users won't have to (even though they can themselves). We spend time on contacting bands and performers in the hopes we can arrange interviews. And we have to spend money on marketing because we'd definitely like more people to know about Capsi and believe that having a larger user base will actually enhance the usefulness for our users.
While we will attempt to create revenue through music, merchandise and ticket affiliate links, on-line advertising remains one of the most effective way to make some earnings.
However, we also value ease-of-use and privacy. Therefore we do not display any advertisements on account pages (any page with /user/ in the URL). Furthermore, we only consider advertising from networks offering targetted adverts (currently Google Adwords/Adsense). Our users are here because they are passionate about live music and advertisements should match the interest of our users: concerts and music.
If you seriously have a problem having to see advertisements on Capsi, please contact us and we'll try to find a way to let you enjoy the site without them.
